King's Shilling Tankard

A genuine old British Kings Shilling is sandwiched within the double glass bottom of this hefty pewter tankard. Engraved on the side is the story of how unwitting men were tricked into the Navy by accepting the Kings Shilling concealed at the bottom of their tankard of ale which had been dropped in the tankard by the press gangs. By drinking the ale you were deemed to have accepted the Kings Shilling. In the 18th century a glass bottomed tankard was invented so you could check to see if someone had dropped a Kings Shilling into your tankard before drinking.
